Two Months!

This is a week late, but I better document before it's too late!
Hannah is...

and I cannot believe how fast it has gone!!
I love watching her grow and change and learn,
but man alive,
I already miss my little newborn

Before I had Hannah,
I wrote in my journal what my expectations were of motherhood.
I knew I would look back and laugh at some of it,
and hoped I'd be right about the majority.
The biggest surprises for me have been:

- For the first few weeks, I felt like I had a different child every week.
Just when I thought I had figured it out,
something new would present itself that I had to figure out.
It's a never ending cycle!

- Newborns don't show their true personality for about two weeks.
When she was born, I kept telling Scott
how lucky we were to have such a mellow baby!
I was convinced we had the easiest baby in the world.
Don't get me wrong, we are still veeeryyy lucky to have Hannah,
but she's not as mellow and easy as I originally thought :)
Once they "wake up" they definitely come with a personality!

- Being a mom is an emotional roller coaster!
I'd like to think I'm pretty emotionally stable.
But holy cow,
the baby's cry, smile, frown, tears, etc. really pulls at my heart
even more than I knew was possible

-Babies need sleep!
I knew this, but I didn't know how important this is.
I thought if she was tired, she would sleep during the day.
Hannah took very long naps for many weeks.
She would take a 4 hour nap, then be up for 4 hours, and then conk out again.
She has been so much happier when I encourage
her to only be awake for an hour at a time.
I let her sleep for however long she needs to.
This has made such a difference!

- Being a mom is BUSY.
I knew moms don't just sit around, obviously.
But I had no idea how busy I would be!
feed, entertain, put to sleep, help wake up, diaper, entertain, sleep,
wake, diaper, feed, bathe, sleep, feed, diaper, sleep, feed, diaper, sleep, feed.......
I just get nothing else done around here!
I try real hard to get one big thing done each day, and make dinner.
The rest of the day is for Hannah

Like I said, I don't feel like I have a newborn anymore!
even though she is still teeny tiny
She is awake, smiling, talking, and wants to be a part of the party!
She is now 9 lb 4 oz, and 23 inches tall!
Long and Lean!
She is still wearing newborn size diapers,
except I just ran out again, so I moved her up to size 1.
At 7 weeks she was officially out of her newborn clothes and into 0-3month.
A lot of the 0-3m clothes are still way too big.

getting ready for her first date with mom and dad

We had a few particularly hard weeks starting at about 3 weeks old
(yeah, right when she "woke up" to life)
Every week it seemed to be something new that was making her cry-
throwing up major, then gas, then worse gas, then wanted to be held constantly,
then decided she hated nursing, then who knows what the problem was...
I was exhausted.
Emotionally and physically.
I had given up chocolate, milk, lots of vegetables, soda/caffeine.. We tried gripe water, gas drops, reflux meds, bouncing, walking, the swing, the carrier, the pacifier, the swaddle...
And while most things helped,
I was starting to fear that we just had a very screamy baby.
Luckily, she seems to finally be done with the inconsolable crying!
Can't tell you how happy I am about this!
Love me a happy baby!!!
Now she only cries if she's bored, tired, hungry, or nursing.

Nursing...
I used to like you.
That's not true, I still do like nursing.
Which is why I'm still exclusively nursing.
But Hannah gets pretty frustrated by it.
She cries quite a bit during it, but not every time!
I have no idea what the problem is.
But she is growing and gaining weight,
so we are keeping at it!
And I hope we can keep it up for a long time!

getting ready for her first day at church

This little blanket is Hannah's "silky". It's behind her head always. She has 3 of them. We don't want her to rub off her hair :)

Some of Hannah's favorite things are her swing (although she didn't really like it until 7 weeks old), her pacifier, being swaddled, kicking her legs as fast and high as she can (she has awesome abs), her bouncer chair, her reflux medicine (smells like cream soda), bath time, music, diaper changes, and laying on her changing table (see below). She will lay there and chill or kick her legs for a full hour sometimes!

Hannah still sleeps like a champ!
She goes to bed between 9 and 10, eats once during the night,
and then wakes up at 7am.
She still sleeps in her pack n play in our room,
but never wakes me up except to eat, once.
Her naps during the day are getting shorter and shorter.
In fact, suddenly her naps are only 15-30 minutes long!
And this is why I get nothing done! :)

just relaxing after quite the blow through her clothes. Cute nakey baby

first trip to the mall. Loved just kicking back and looking around

I just love her curious little hands that always find their way out of her swaddle

So fun that she really looks at us and interacts with us now. She definitely knows us. In fact, just in the last couple of weeks, if I hand her off to a stranger, she will cry! She seems way too young for that!?

And last, but not least, a video for your enjoyment!

Little Munchkin

Our little Miss Hannah Lewis is 2 weeks old already!
She was born Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 3:43am.
6 lb 4 oz, 19 inches long!
and ohhhh how we love her!
The week before she was born, at my 38 week appointment
I was still measuring behind schedule and my doctor said he was feeling "anxious"
and thought we should induce me sometime during my 39th week.
He said he had no reason to think she was doing poorly in there,
but no reason to think she was thriving either.
I really, really did not want to be induced.
After all this time, I was so exciting to be able to go into labor!
So I was nervous, and a little bummed out too.
I thought about it for a week,
and finally decided that I go to a doctor for a reason,
I should do what he suggests.
At my 39 week appointment, we talked about it again.
I had decided to be induced Thursday, November 29.
But I quickly learned that was not a day they could induce me.
Long story short, I was being induced in 4 hours.
gulp..
I tried to stay calm.
Scott was in class, and we were discussing through text.
I was so very nervous.
By the time Scott got home, I felt very good about our decision,
and as ready as possible.
So we checked in.

**Did I mention that the hospital we planned to deliver at
was booked solid for the week for inductions?!
So last minute we had to go to another hospital that I had never been to!
We google mapped it on the way, and somehow the map took us to the Animal Hospital instead!
It was so not funny at the time, because we were running late, and I was anxious!
But now it makes me laugh.
Dang Iphone map update that doesn't work now!**

They started the pitocin at about 8:30 pm,
Gave me an epidural a couple hours later (heaven-sent),
And then basically told us to go to sleep for the night.
the nurses had me convinced I wouldn't have her for 12-20 hours.
Wrong-o!
I'll spare you all the lovely details, but at 2:45ish
I asked the nurse if I should be feeling as much as I was,
or if they could possibly up my epidural
(thinking I still had 10+ hours to endure).
She checked how I was progressing,
and told me I was about to have this baby!
I was clueless!
She told me to lay still and to not push at all.
They were calling my Doctor.
Doctor came very soon,
I pushed for less than 30 minutes,
and just like that,
we had ourselves a baby!!!

Highlights from her first 2 weeks of life:
- Laughing out loud, three times. First time was at 2 days old!
I heard it, looked over at her in disbelief, and she was smiling huge.
Totally asleep. Funny baby
- Sleeping a 6 hour stretch pretty much every night
-Learning to roll from hip to hip.
-Loooves her pacifier (don't judge me), doesn't love when she drops it
- Sucking her thumb

I almost always have her hands in gloves,
so she rarely gets the chance to attempt this again.
But she has done it twice now.
-Breaks out of mom's unbreakable swaddles
- Loves driving in the car. Lulls her to sleep
- Going on a walk around the neighborhood.
Her jacket was a little big
- Mastered the lip pucker
(we will have to break this habit before kindergarten)

We sure love you Hannah girl!!!

Updates on Life!

I sure has been a long time since I've posted on the blog
oops!

Here's some recap, via the phone pics-

My brother Tom's 17th birthday in Las Vegas.

Visiting my parents and brother in California.

We joined some friends at their beach house during school break.
This must have been the beginning of my "I hate all my clothes and nothing fits me" stage

Living up the no-kids life

Touring hospitals

Getting huge/Staying in my pajamas all day

Halloween Trunk or Treat at church
In case you're confused, I was a mummy. aaand that's the baby peeking out.
I guess it was confusing

Decorating for Christmas on November 1st.
Cause that's how I roll

8 months pregnant on November 2!

Scott begged me to take these pictures. We took a stroll at the mall one night, and I pointed out a section of Nordstrom to Scott where things are quite expensive. He was shocked. And wanted to ask the mannequin about her lovely shawl. I was so embarrassed.
 $795.
Don't know why he wouldn't let me buy anything!

Visiting Utah for General Conference
Had a baby shower with my family while we were there!

Welcomed baby Camryn into my brother's family!

And baby Madeline into my other brother's family!
Can not wait to get to meet her!

Couldn't help but feel attached to these girls knowing they will be best little cousins with our's!

Our life pretty much consists of school and baby.
Luckily, they are both going well!
We are so anxious for our little one's arrival!
I'm due in 2 weeks and 5 days.. but who's counting.
I'm hoping I will know when I'm in labor.
Really, I'm sure I will.
I hear it gets kinda intense :)
But I've had steady contractions since I was 18 weeks!
Usually 3-6 an hour, sometimes a lot more.
But our doctor never seems concerned, so I've never gone to the hospital.
These days they are quite a bit stronger and more frequent than they have been before,
so I'm hoping she comes soon!!
But my guess is she will take her sweet time.
In fact, I have yet to pack my bag.
But I've packed her's 3 times!

I got a little nervous last week at my 36 week appointment when they said I was measuring 32 weeks.
So we had an ultrasound done just to check on the munchkin.
And she is doing great!
She was measuring only 4 days behind, in the 25th percentile.
Almost 6 lbs already!
I was sure relieved!

Looks like she has some hair!
Can't wait to meet her!!

(More than) Half Way to Baby!!

5 weeks

12 weeks

17 weeks

21 weeks and more than half way to baby!!
(yes I am extremely low.. ha! I have no idea why, but apparently my mom carried the same way)

I wish she could be here now!
We absolutely love her already
and love her kicks all day long.
It sure makes the work day more fun that she gets to come with me!
I keep candy at my desk just to eat so she'll wake up.
I should probably stop that..

Our Doctor "peeked" at our appointment and declared that
IT'S A GIRL!
When I asked him how sure he was about it,
he told me to keep my receipts.
I'm feeling confident that she's a girl
but am anxious for him to confirm next week.
Scott is still pretty hesitant to believe it yet,
but hasn't stopped me from buying a couple outfits for her :)

My mom came last week for 24 hours
to help me find some maternity clothes
(This has been so frustrating for me, but I've made progress!)
She also spoiled us with dinner, lunch, frozen yogurt, Panera brownies, oh my..
We also picked out fabric for a baby blanket!
It only took us 2 hours in Joann's to pick out 4 fabrics... Oops!
It was a great day

Two weekends ago Scott and I went to Utah for a very quick, 2.5 day trip
While we were there we went to his parents farm in Duchesne, went sailing (well Scott and his siblings did, the rest of us got left on the shore ha! better luck next time!), took family pictures with the Lewis'- which was my first time!, and I squeezed in a quick stop at my good friend Brittany's, where we did her hair and prepped for the arrival of her little boy. He arrived 6 days later. Wish I got to meet him!
I'm sure he and our little girl will date and get married some day.
Obviously.
